Tuition in SloughMore Than Tutors-We're Your Child's Champions
At Aljabra, we believe every child has untapped potential waiting to be discovered. Named after the revolutionary mathematical work that gave us algebra, we carry forward that legacy of transforming how students understand mathematics and science.
Born from a Simple Belief
Aljabra was founded with one powerful belief: no child should feel like they're "just not good at maths." Our name comes from "Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wal-Muqabala" (The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing) by Persian mathematician Al-Khwarizmi-the very text that gave us the word "algebra".
We've all seen it-the frustration, the tears over homework, the resigned "I can't do it." Behind every struggling student is a child who simply needs the right support, the right approach, and someone who truly believes in them.
That's why we created Aljabra. We're not just another tutoring company-we're the tuition in Slough and Windsor that families rely on. We're a team of passionate maths tutors, science tutors, and educational specialists who understand that building confidence is just as important as teaching content.
Every maths teacher in Slough on our team is a qualified, DBS-checked specialist who has guided local students from KS2 through to A-Level, so your child learns from someone who knows the Slough curriculum inside out.
Every lesson we teach is designed not just to improve grades, but to help students believe they can succeed.

Why the Aljabra Logo Is an Octopus
The octopus is at the heart of Aljabra because it represents something I learned early on as a tutor: understanding a student isn't always about what they say.
I once taught a 17-year-old girl who hadn't attended school since she was 12 due to severe anxiety. When we first began working together, communication was incredibly difficult. She rarely spoke, avoided eye contact, and found it almost impossible to express when something didn't make sense.
For the first few months, I genuinely struggled. I couldn't tell whether the work was too easy, too hard, or simply overwhelming - and asking direct questions only increased her anxiety. She wasn't disengaged; she was protecting herself.
I realised she needed a way to communicate without words.
So I sewed her a small reversible octopus - one side happy, one side sad. At the start of each lesson, I would place it beside her. If the work felt manageable, the happy face stayed. If things became confusing or overwhelming, she could quietly flip the octopus over. No explanations. No pressure. No spotlight.
That small change transformed everything.
It gave her control. It gave her safety. And it gave me insight - not just into her understanding, but into her emotional state. From that point on, lessons became calmer, more productive, and more trusting. She began to engage more, and over time, her confidence slowly grew.
The octopus came to symbolise something much bigger than that single moment.
Octopuses are intelligent, adaptable, and sensitive creatures. They solve problems in different ways, respond to their environment, and protect themselves when overwhelmed - much like many students do when learning feels difficult.
That's why the octopus became the Aljabra logo.
It represents adaptability, emotional awareness, and the belief that learning should meet students where they are, not force them to fit a rigid system. At Aljabra, understanding how a student feels is just as important as understanding what they know.
Sometimes progress starts not with an answer, but with feeling safe enough to say, "This is hard."
