Aljabra Mobile Tutoring Policy
This sets out how lessons in your home work and what we expect from each other. It is short on purpose. If anything here raises a question, ask us before lessons begin rather than after.
An adult must be at home
An adult must be present in the home for the whole lesson. This is not negotiable and it protects your child and our tutor equally.
If our tutor arrives and there is no adult at home, the lesson cannot go ahead and is charged in full. Please tell us in advance if the usual arrangement changes, so we can move the session rather than send someone out for nothing.
The working space
Lessons need a table in a quiet room with the television off, and a plug socket within reach. A dining table or kitchen table is ideal. Lessons do not take place in bedrooms.
We ask that younger siblings and pets are elsewhere during the session. A tutor teaching in your home cannot move to another room the way they could at our centre, so the space you set up is the space the lesson happens in.
Getting there
Please make sure our tutor can park nearby and get to the door without difficulty. Where parking has to be paid for, we will add it to your invoice at cost.
Timing and lateness
Lessons begin and end at the scheduled time. If our tutor arrives and has to wait to be let in or for your child to be ready, that waiting counts as lesson time and the session still finishes as planned.
If our tutor is delayed, we will let you know as soon as we can, and any time lost is added to the session or credited.
Cancelling and rescheduling
Your child's lesson time is reserved for them each week, and the tutor has both prepared for it and planned their travel around it, so we ask for at least 48 hours' notice before the lesson start time if you need to cancel or move a session.
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice are charged in full, and this includes a tutor arriving to find nobody home. With more than 48 hours' notice we will always try to find an alternative time, though this depends on tutor availability. If no alternative can be found the session is simply cancelled and not charged.
If we need to cancel
Occasionally a tutor will be unwell or unable to travel. If that happens we will tell you as early as we can and offer either a rescheduled session or a credit on your next invoice. You will never be charged for a lesson we cancel.
We will not send a tutor into a home where someone is contagious, and we would ask that you let us know rather than going ahead. Nobody is charged for a session cancelled for that reason on either side.
Payment
Lessons are paid for in advance. Invoices are sent automatically and payment is taken from the card saved on your account, so there is nothing for you to do each month once you are set up.
If payment has not gone through we will get in touch, and lessons may be paused until the account is up to date. We do not tie you into a minimum term, so if you want to stop lessons just let us know as early as you reasonably can.
Homework
Students are set work between lessons, usually through, IXL, Seneca or Blooket. It is a small amount and it matters more than people expect, because an hour a week on its own does not move a grade. We will let you know if it stops being completed.
Behaviour and safety
We expect students to be ready to work at the agreed time, treat their tutor with respect, and keep phones away during the lesson.
Our tutors have the right to work somewhere safe and respectful. A tutor may end a session and leave if the environment is unsafe, if smoking takes place during the lesson, or if anyone in the home behaves unacceptably towards them. In those circumstances the session is charged in full.
If behaviour becomes a problem short of that, we will talk to you about it first and work out how to fix it together. We may also need to end tuition if the arrangement stops working, for example where payments are repeatedly late or the agreed expectations are not being met. We would always talk to you before it came to that.
Safeguarding and your data
All our tutors hold an enhanced DBS certificate and follow our safeguarding procedures. Our designated safeguarding lead is Heba Abduljhbar, contactable at heba@aljabra.com.
We hold the details you give us in order to teach your child, arrange lessons and take payment, and we do not share them with anyone else or use them for marketing without asking you first. You can ask to see what we hold or ask us to delete it at any time by emailing heba@aljabra.com.
